Juvederm vs. Restylane for Lip Injections

  1. difference between Juvederm and Restylane

The San Diego Cosmetic Laser Clinic offers a wide variety of dermal fillers to recreate a once youthful, vibrant appearance. Restylane and Juvederm are popular among clients for their ability to reduce the prominence of smile lines and increase the volume of your lips. How does each one stack up? We’ve created the ultimate guide to lip injections to help you make an informed decision about your skin.

Restylane vs. Juvederm: How it Works

Originally originated in Sweden, Restylane is a non-surgical procedure wherein clients are injected with hyaluronic acid, a naturally-occurring chemical found within the skin. An anesthetic will be applied before small needles are used to make the injections. Afterward, the technician will smooth the area to ensure the hyaluronic acid is evenly distributed.

Hyaluronic acid is also used with Juvederm XC to plump and define lips and smooth wrinkles around your mouth. Neither dermal filler is synthesized from animal sources, though Juvederm is considered to be the softer filler when compared to Restylane. Note, there are two types of Juvederm; however, Voluma is used solely for the cheek areas.

The Difference Between Juvederm and Restylane

  • Preparation: To prepare for a lip injection, you may take pain reducer – just avoid blood thinners, anti-inflammatory medications and aspirin. Usually our numbing cream is sufficient. Since Restylane is hypoallergenic, there is no need for an allergy test prior to treatment; however, Dr. Mani will always require an initial consultation to review the pros and cons of all dermal filler injections.
  • Duration and Recovery: Both procedures can be completed within 30 to 60 minutes with virtually no downtime. Side effects include minimal swelling, bruising and/or redness. Our former clients love the fact they can return to work immediately without the pain and scarring associated with surgery.
  • Results: Though everyone’s skin is different, fillers typically last six months to a year. Subsequent treatments may be requested to maintain desired results.
  • Cost: Prices vary based on total number of necessary treatments and their respective location (for example, lip injections will cost less than lip and smile lines). The costs associated with both Restylane and Juvederm are comparable and depend on the amount of hyaluronic acid used – usually priced per syringe.

As our clients have had incredible results with both procedures, we highly recommend Restylane and Juvederm.
