Ultherapy Vs. Thermage: How Are They Different?

  1. ultherapy vs thermage - best non surgical face lift

Want smoother, tighter, more radiant skin? Who doesn’t? At the San Diego Cosmetic Laser Clinic, we offer Ultherapy and Thermage treatments to reverse the signs of aging and give years back to your body. We generally suggest patients go with Ultherapy for a variety of reasons, but find out which procedure is right for you by learning the differences between our FDA-approved treatments.

Ultherapy vs. Thermage: How it Works

In your search for the best non-surgical face lift, it’s important to understand the distinctions between cosmetic treatments as many promise similar effects yet employ different methods.

How Ultherapy Works

Ultherapy uses ultrasound technology by stimulating collagen responses deep beneath the layers of the skin. After you’ve received an application of ultrasound gel, our Ultherapy technician will search for specific tissue to target and treat with ultrasound energy. This “tricks” the body into producing new collagen – a process that results in firmer skin.

How Thermage Works

Thermage is a rejuvenation procedure that employs the use of radiofrequency to attack cellulite, tighten skin and smooth wrinkle lines and blemishes. Our team will target your specific problem areas by heating deep tissue with an instrument that stays cool to the touch. Like Ultherapy, Thermage produces new collagen for youthful-looking skin.

What Procedure is More Effective, Ultherapy or Thermage?

While both Ultherapy and Thermage are effective treatments to fight off father time, we generally suggest Ultherapy as the better and more effective procedure. While Thermage has been around longer and has been used on over a million patients, Ultherapy has a variety of benefits over Thermage that is impossible to ignore.

Ultherapy is the only FDA approved treatment to tighten and lift the eyebrows, chin and neck, while Thermage is only approved for wrinkle relief. This extra benefit can lead to a dramatic difference in how you look, helping to both get rid of sagging skin while simultaneously treating wrinkles. Ultherapy also uses ultrasound to go deep beneath the skin for long-lasting and dramatic results, while the radiofrequency used in Thermage does not go as deep beneath the outermost layer of skin.

It is for these reasons that we say without hesitation that Ultherapy is a more effective treatment for signs of aging than Thermage.

What to Expect From Thermage and Ultherapy

Duration And Recovery

Both procedures are fast enough to be performed on your lunch break, although most clients prefer to set aside a full day to allow any redness or swelling to dissipate. Ultherapy typically requires only one 30-to-90-minute session, while Thermage lasts about 45 minutes for the eyes and face or 90 minutes for larger areas like your backside or tummy. Particularly problematic skin may necessitate multiple treatments; however, these expectations will be set during your consultation.

Results

Neither treatment is permanent, meaning you may desire a touch up every year to keep the skin as firm as it can be without surgery. Ultherapy produces results within two to three months as new collagen forms below the epidermis. Thermage is very similar, with optimal results showing around the six-month mark. Many clients have seen results in a matter of weeks.

Cost

It’s difficult to provide quotes before a professional has had the opportunity to discuss your needs and expectations and analyze your skin. Both treatment options cover multiple areas of the body and, by virtue of their non-permanent results, may need follow-up sessions. In general, Ultherapy is slightly higher in cost per treatment by a few hundred dollars.
