What to Expect After Vaginoplasty Vaginal Rejuvenation

If you are one of millions of women who have experienced vaginal relaxation due to childbirth or aging, then you may have already done some research on the benefits of vaginoplasty.  If you haven’t and you’re just beginning to look into it, then you probably have a lot of questions.

What is Vaginoplasty?

Vaginoplasty, often referred to as vaginal rejuvenation, is a 1- to 2-hour outpatient surgical procedure that tightens the vaginal walls and the vaginal canal.  At San Diego Cosmetic Laser Clinic, our patients who choose vaginoplasty are those whose vaginal relaxation has resulted in:

    • Decreased stimulation and friction during intercourse
    • Awkward and embarrassing sounds during intercourse
    • A slack vagina with minimal muscle tone
    • An unpleasing gaping appearance of the vagina
    • Tampon slippage
  • Incontinence problems

Vaginal rejuvenation addresses these issues by removing excess tissue and tightening the vaginal walls.  Not only can it eliminate the embarrassments and inconveniences caused by a loose vagina, but it can also enhance a woman’s self-esteem and sexual satisfaction. Studies have shown that up to 90% of vaginoplasty patients are able to experience an improved sex life following the procedure.

So…what happens after the vaginal rejuvenation procedure?

After your vaginoplasty procedure, you should plan to take a few days to rest. You may experience some pain and discomfort at the incision site. Dr. Parvin Mani will also instruct you to ice the area regularly. You will need to keep it clean at all times and apply an antibiotic ointment to the external stitches.

Unless your job is strenuous, you may be able to return to work within three days or so. But in order to allow yourself time to heal properly, it is best plan a recovery period of at least 6 weeks.  During this recovery time, Dr. Parvin Mani will instruct you to:

    • Abstain from intercourse
    • Avoid tampons
    • Refrain from rigorous exercise
    • Stay off of bicycles, motorcycles, jet skis, horseback, and four-wheelers
    • Avoid hot tubs and swimming
  • Take the occasional sitz bath to aid the healing process

After the 6-week recovery period, you’ll be able to resume your regular activities and exercise, and the healing process should be complete by 13 weeks.

And then…more pleasure, more confidence

Once you have healed from your vaginoplasty, you may find it easier to reach orgasm and experience a greater sense of pleasure during intercourse. Your partner may, too.  Even if you don’t have a partner or aren’t particularly concerned about enhancing your sexual experiences, vaginal rejuvenation can help restore your confidence and your sense of womanhood.

And guess what? The results of your vaginal rejuvenation can last a lifetime! Although we can’t stop the aging process altogether (and don’t we wish we could!), after the procedure, your vaginal area should never return to the previous degree of relaxation.

You’ll want to note, however, that a vaginal birth can reverse the effects of the procedure.  So if you’re still planning to have children, be sure to mention it to the doctor during your consultation.  And if you’re interested in combining your vaginoplasty with a labiaplasty to reshape your inner vaginal lips, talk to Dr. Parvin Mani about that, too!
